Celebrating World Health and Safety Day: How Strahman Champions Workplace Safety
April 28, 2025
April 28 is World Health and Safety Day, an annual reminder that protecting the health and well-being of workers is a responsibility we all share. At Strahman, we believe that workplace safety isn’t just a checklist—it’s a culture built on action, communication, and continuous improvement.
Why Workplace Safety Matters
Did you know that over 2.7 million workplace injuries occur in the U.S. each year? These incidents not only affect productivity but also take a toll on the emotional well-being of employees. At Strahman, we understand that a safe environment fosters confidence, reduces stress, and ultimately leads to a more engaged workforce. Imagine a workplace where everyone feels secure, valued, and empowered.
How Our Safety Committees Work Together
Workplace safety at Strahman is more than policy—it’s part of our identity. At our Bethlehem facility, we’ve implemented a collaborative approach to safety through three employee-led committees:
The Safety Committee
Responsible for maintaining, promoting, and improving the safe execution of operations throughout our facility.
The First Aid Committee
Ensures the facility is equipped for immediate response to medical situations–maintaining supplies and preparing employees for emergencies.
The Incident Report Committee
Manages the collection, documentation, and analysis of safety-related incidents and near misses. This helps us identify trends and take corrective action.
These committees meet monthly to review open safety issues, address common workplace hazards, and track the progress of action items. Their work supports several key initiatives:
-
Comprehensive Training: Ongoing sessions to keep everyone current on safety protocols.
-
Open Communication: Employees are encouraged to share safety concerns and feedback.
-
Regular Assessments: Routine audits help identify and eliminate risks proactively.
Recent Safety Improvements at Strahman
Thanks to the collaboration of these committees, we’ve implemented several meaningful improvements that have directly enhanced safety and efficiency across the Bethlehem facility. These include:
- Installing new lighting in the machine shop for better visibility and reduced eye strain
- Upgrading to a new ventilation system for improved air quality and comfort
- Introducing a paint booth for small parts finishing to ensure containment and compliance
- Increasing access to task-specific personal protective equipment (PPE)
These upgrades are just a few examples of the positive changes driven by employees who care deeply about their workplace and colleagues.
Real Stories, Real Impact: How Safety Transforms Lives at Work
At Strahman, we want to take a moment to reflect on the profound impact that a safe workplace has on our employees’ lives. Safety isn’t just a requirement–it’s a commitment to our most valuable asset: our people. Here's some of what our team members say about the improvements:
Before the upgrades, the paint fumes in the shop used to cause really strong smells and discomfort. Since installing the new paint booth and ventilation system, the air is much cleaner and fresher. You can really feel the difference — it’s a huge improvement for everyone working in the area.
Before the new ventilation system, there was always a thick haze in the air after welding — you could see it even from 100 yards away. Now, the haze is completely gone. The air feels cleaner and it’s made a huge difference in the shop environment.
The new lighting in the machine shop has made a big difference. It’s so much easier to see the details of the work we’re doing, and there’s way less eye strain by the end of the day. It’s made the whole shop feel brighter and safer.
Join Us in Making a Difference
As we observe World Health and Safety Day, we recognize and thank the members of our Safety Committee, First Aid Committee, and Incident Report Committee for their leadership and dedication. Their work reflects the very best of what we strive for at Strahman: a workplace where people feel safe, supported, and empowered to do their best work.
